Carlos, a native of Puerto Rico, grew up in the Bronx as a skinny, awkward kid who was always athletic but never really into sports. During college, while studying psychology, Carlos “filled out” a little bit. Ironically, while playing flag football he was recruited to play on a semi-pro football team based in the Bronx and ended up playing defensive back for 3 years.
A few years later while attending grad school, starting a family and figuring life out, Carlos discovered personal training and group exercise. Carlos became completely immersed in the culture of the fitness industry and consequently sought and attained a position at a luxury, holistic, interdisciplinary training facility that allowed him to wed his interest in health and wellness with his academic pursuits in psychology.
He continues to pursue ways to meld his vast experience within the fitness industry with his knowledge of psychology. In his spare time when Carlos is not with his two amazing sons, (yes he talks about them a lot); he loves to cross-train by doing HIT style workouts and is an avid (previously competitive) CrossFitter. Carlos has competed in various obstacle races; Tough Mudder, Spartan Race, Civilian Military Combine and Warrior Dash just to name a few He is always looking for the next FHITness challenge. Carlos is a music buff with varied tastes (though at heart a hip hop purist), and spends WAY too much time creating playlists for not only his classes but also as a way to pass time on his commute.
