Chris SantaMaria

Growing up in Bergen County, NJ, Chris was the dancer in a family filled with athletes. While performing was a childhood dream, he soon realized that dance wasn’t his forever career. He was bit by the fitness bug at the age of 20 and has been teaching fitness ever since. With over 8 years of experience, Chris is driven by inspiring others to be the best they can be. During his Fhitting Room classes, he feels there is an energy exchange that is reminiscent of a dance performance. He believes that if you push yourself, you’re left with an adrenaline rush and feel as though you can conquer anything. When he’s not at Fhitting Room, you can find him tearing it up instructing dance cardio at 305 Fitness.

1 First FHIX experience?

At the Flatiron studio with Amanda & Jason. I remember being super pumped to do thrusters on tempo with the music blasting and people looking at me like I was crazy (I am). It was lit, and I was hooked ever since.

2 Who is your FHITspiration?

I’d have to give this one to one of my closest friends, Katie Lopes. She’s responsible for connecting me with the right people and pushed me into the direction of fitness. She holds everyone around her accountable for achieving their personal goals, hopes & dreams.

3 Personal theme song?

Superlove by Tinashe.

4 Celebrity doppelganger?

I’ve been told Nick Jonas - You be the judge.

5 Favorite guilty pleasure?

I’d have to say it’s a tie between Bravo TV & gummy bears.

6 What is it about group fitness?

Community. Working out is one thing, but when you have a class full of people working at the same time, you feel a sense of support and your willingness to keep going is amplified 110%

8 What is your sign? Do you read your horoscope?

I am a GEMINI from head to toe, but I don’t read my horoscope.

9 What did you want to be when you were growing up?

Growing up, I always wanted to be a dancer or a teacher.

10 Perfect Sunday afternoon activity?

I love going to the movies, so a trip to the Alamo Draft House in BK has my name written all over it.

11 Best advice you ever received?

Life’s too serious to take life so seriously.

12 Most challenging exercise movement and why?

Hamstring curls. As dancer, my body has been through it all, but hamstring curls seem to be my kryptonite based on the overuse of my hammies. No matter how pumped I am during a workout, they always make me feel like a newb.

13 Food you can’t live without?

Honeycrisp apples!

14 Your biggest accomplishment?

Losing 70 lbs. I was a chubby one back in the pre-dance day.
