Dara Theodore

From the moment she experienced her first FHIX, Dara knew she had found her calling. Active and athletic from an early age, she participated in numerous sports; from competing on a national championship varsity cheerleading squad (which was FINALLY just recognized as an official sport!) to mastering lacrosse, soccer, downhill skiing, swimming and gymnastics, she’s no stranger to sweat. After graduating from Emory University, Dara moved to NYC to pursue a career in performance and worked as a professional singer for 8 years. Now, she is the proud mother of 2 boys, 8 and 5 years of age.

Dara always kept in shape with daily workouts that included strength training, yoga, and running, but it wasn’t until she discovered The Fhitting Room that she realized how it felt to push herself to her limits. She became a fanatic FHIXer, using her class time both to get an insane workout AND learn from the incredible instructors at the helm. Dara is so excited to share what she has learned to help inspire and motivate others to do what she has done—get in the best shape of her life and feel AMAZING, both inside and out!

21 Questions

1 First FHIX experience?

Eric and Daury shortly after TFR opened. It was a somewhat life changing experience because it was the best workout I'd ever had. It also was the genesis of my journey to becoming a FHITpro!

2 What is it about group fitness?

The energy, the camaraderie, the community.

3 Celebrity doppelganger?

Sandra Bullock.

4 Post workout snack?

I love having a shake with kale, almond milk, banana, and nut butter. Or I go straight for lunch and have a salad with protein and lots of different veggies.

5 Favorite guilty pleasure?

Sooo many. But give me a moist and delicious peanut butter cookie and I'm yours.

6 What is always in your fridge?

Almond milk and Nuttzo nut butter.

7 Who is your FHITspiration?

My fierce and FHIT TFR female friends and colleagues. Julia Avery, Amanda Butler and Emily Cook Harris.

8 What did you want to be when you were growing up?

An actress! And a singer! I dabbled in both in prior to my career at TFR. I was as a professional singer for private events and recordings.

9 Perfect Sunday afternoon activity?

In good weather, I love hanging at Central Park with the family, maybe a bike ride, and a picnic. In bad weather a movie at the theater with the awesome leather recliners and reserved seats!

10 Most challenging exercise movement and why?

Kettlebell thrusters. They are a dynamic explosive movement that challenges your legs, glutes, core, shoulders--basically your whole body!

11 Favorite sneaker brand?

Different for different things. Nike for style, Reebok for workouts.

12 Your biggest accomplishment?

Raising my 2 boys.

13 Your favorite book?

“To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee.

14 Best vacation you have ever taken?

Family vacay at Atlantis, Bahamas. Close second was honeymoon in Mexico.

15 Favorite athlete?

Currently the entire US Women's soccer team :)

16 Best advice you ever received?

Start small--set attainable goals and go after them. Each success leads to another!

17 Food you can’t live without?

Coffee with half and half. Is that a food?

18 Celebrity you would love to train and why?

Amy Schumer. Because she is HILARIOUS.

19 Favorite quote?

The beginning of the Serenity Prayer: “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

20 Dive bar or bottle service?

Dive bar.

21 The best time of the year in New York is…

Summer, when most people clear out.
