Rich Alvarez

Growing up in NYC, the Concrete Jungle has always been his stomping ground. Rich began playing organized baseball and basketball early in his childhood and continued throughout his adolescence. It wasn’t until High School that Rich took his first steps into a gym. With guidance from his Uncle, Rich started training with kettlebells, dumbbells, and body weight movements purely with the intent to get stronger and faster on the field. Upon entering college, he took his passion for sports and training and applied it to his education and will soon complete his degree in Exercise Science at CUNY Brooklyn College.

1 First FHIX experience?

It was my first time at Fhitting Room and Daury and Dennys were teaching. It was by far the most entertaining/difficult workout I had ever encountered because those two are hilarious as co-instructors but also mean business.

2 Who is your FHITspiration?

It would be my Uncle Angelo. He was the person who first introduced me to training when I was 15. I don’t know where I’d be without him.

3 Personal theme song?

Dipset Anthem – The Diplomats, Cam’Ron, Juelz Santana.

4 Celebrity doppelganger?

Must admit that I have yet to come across a doppelgänger :( but my FHITfam seems to think Dave Franco.

5 Favorite guilty pleasure?

Hands down it’s ‘Ben & Jerry’s: Milk N Cookies’.

6 What is it about group fitness?

I enjoy the camaraderie of the class and knowing that the person next to me is suffering just as badly.

7 Post workout snack?

I usually pour myself an ice-cold glass of milk or have a protein shake.

8 What is your sign? Do you read your horoscope?

Gemini, but I don’t usually read my horoscope.

9 What did you want to be when you were growing up?

A Professional Baseball player.

10 Perfect Sunday afternoon activity?

Relaxing at home, getting prepared for the week ahead.

11 Best advice you ever received?

Be patient, be confident, and always have fun.

12 Most challenging exercise movement and why?

The Air Squat – it is a movement that is often overlooked because it seems so simple but it’s form can always be refined.

13 Food you can’t live without?

Any of Mom’s home cooked meals.

14 Your biggest accomplishment?

Shortly becoming a college graduate. I look forward to that day coming!

15 Best vacation you have ever taken?

Going to Puerto Rico with my baseball team for 10 days.

16 Favorite athlete?

Bryce Harper- his athleticism, tenacity, and love for the game are beyond inspiring.

17 What is your favorite movie?

A Bronx Tale… “The saddest thing in life is wasted talent”

18 Who you would love to meet and have dinner with?

Roberto Clemente and Al Pacino.

19 Favorite restaurant in the city?

‘Casa Adela’ in the Lower East Side.
