Born in Washington, D.C., with her family hailing from Haiti, Tara started performing at the age of 3 and never stopped. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, her passion for dance and acting led her to New York City. You may have seen her in commercials, performing with Beyonce, or acting in an episode of Gotham. Her fitness journey began somewhat unexpectedly through a need to feel ready for whatever gig came her way. She started to feel stronger not only physically, but also mentally and emotionally. Now, as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor, Tara’s style is rooted in wellness. Her approach to wellness is founded on healing and empowerment. She has a background in meditation and breathwork, dance, yoga, pilates, gyrotonic, HIIT training, and TRX. Tara has worked with a range of clientele including celebrities like Madonna. She is incredibly passionate about helping people meet their goals in a healthy, fun, and sustainable way.

1 First FHIX experience?
About a year ago, a friend dragged me (sort of literally) to a class after I’d just finished teaching 3 classes. I didn’t really feel like working out so I kept trying to pick up super light weights, but the instructors wouldn’t let me. I was so impressed with the level of detail and creativity in programming; I was hooked!
2 Who is your FHITspiration?
One of my personal training clients. She came to me in the middle of a terrible divorce, feeling lost and beat up. Over time, I got to watch her find herself again and now I see her beaming with confidence, strong, and ready for anything.

Formation by Beyonce

Rosario Dawson (Some of the close ups when she was dying in 7 Pounds scared my friends!)

Dark chocolate, avocados, old scotch
6 What is it about group fitness?
The joy I feel from helping people achieve their goals and find their confidence, strength, and stamina.
7 Post workout snack?
Don’t judge me but… I usually pop about 15 pellets of chlorella/spirulina then get a juice and then eventually some kind of veggie bowl situation. I’m not a vegetarian or vegan, but I live like one most days.
8 What is your sign? Do you read your horoscope?
Aquarius through and through. I don’t read a daily horoscope, but I’ll look at recaps for the month and pay attention to what’s happening astrologically (full moon/new moon/mercury retrograde/etc.)
9 What did you want to be when you were growing up?
I wanted to help people, but I had no idea what that would look like. I knew I was an artist, but I also had a passion for anatomy and how the body works. Now I’m doing it all!
10 Perfect Sunday afternoon activity?
On a warm day, I love to be near water with friends/family and have a BBQ with great music and beers. If it’s winter or the weather isn’t great—an intense hot yoga class then a run back home :)
11 Best advice you ever received?
You can have it all.
12 Most challenging exercise movement and why?
Bottoms up press. It sends my neuro system into overdrive. No matter how many times I’ve done it, each side feels so different every single time.
13 Food you can’t live without?
Avocados and dark chocolate!
14 Your biggest accomplishment?
It’s so cliché, but honestly it was taking a chance on myself and moving to NYC to follow my dreams.

As far as looks: Nike. As far as actual functionality/durability: APL Adidas

18 Favorite movie?
This question always makes my brain flatline for some reason, but the first films that come to mind are The Matrix, Sing, and Black Panther.
