Extensive science and research validate that total body workouts, with intervals of High Intensity Training (HIT) that include both resistance and cardio, are the most effective.
High intensity training (HIT) involves performing an all-out exhaustive physical effort for a short time followed by a short, sometimes active, recovery. A high-intensity workout increases the body’s need for oxygen during the effort and creates an oxygen shortage, causing the body to ask for more oxygen during recovery. This “afterburn” effect is referred to as Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC) and is the reason why intense exercise intervals will help burn more fat and calories than regular aerobic and steady-state workouts and translates into a metabolic boost for up to 48 hours after a complete HIT routine. Challenge yourself; allow us to safely push you out of your comfort zone, and you can spend less time exercising while getting leaner & stronger. What’s better than that?
High intensity interval training taxes both aerobic and anaerobic fitness. Aerobic fitness increases the body’s need for oxygen and anaerobic builds muscle. Our workouts will increase your endurance and make you stronger at the same time. Studies indicate as little as 27 minutes of HIT three times per week produces the same anaerobic and aerobic improvement as 60 minutes of steady state cardio five times per week, so you can have more time for everything else in your life!
The Fhitting Room started with an unshakeable desire to combine the efficacy and personalization of expertly programmed high intensity workouts done in one-on-one settings with the energy and contagious culture of coveted boutique group fitness classes.
The year 2002 was a great one for me. I was in my late twenties, a recent Harvard Business School grad and loved my Pepsi marketing career. My days were filled with incredible experiences, like producing live concerts starring artists such as Beyonce, Kanye West and Greenday, and I had VIP access to major sporting and entertainment events.
Outside of work I was the ruler of my free time; I exercised every weekday for an hour or more and ate super healthy meals on those same 5 days while indulging on weekends. I was petite but lacked a flat stomach, didn’t feel particularly fit and was devoid of visible muscle tone.
Ten years later, my full time job was raising my two sons, which was quite the all consuming experience. I had no free time (unless you count the hours between one and six AM), yet I couldn’t get this “gym idea” (title of an email I sent to one of my best friends and now Chief of Deets & Peeps, Jessica) out of my head.
I had been doing high intensity workouts with a personal trainer since giving birth to my older son, and my results were amazing. I was at my personal best physically and emotionally and felt strong, resilient and empowered. At the same time, fitness boutiques were springing up and people were excited to workout at specialized studios. Boutiques offered focused classes, entertaining trainers, beautiful and clean spaces and an opportunity to exercise while having fun and socializing with friends and other burners. I saw friends embrace boutique fitness and compare notes on their workouts, trainers and fitness fashions. I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was an opportunity to deliver the effectiveness of a 5-star personal cross-training session in a kick ass, contagiously fun setting. Soon after, The Fhitting Room was born.
